Professional Biography:
"I have devoted forty years towards the study of natural medicine and my personal journey to understand the 'true nature of healing."
From the early 90's I have held an Oriental Medical Degree in the practice of Acupuncture and other modalities pertaining to Oriental Medicine. As a licensed Massage Therapist from 1988 I have a great respect of "body touch therapies" and offer unique treatments having trained in many forms of Manual Therapy and Asian modalities; Chi Nei Tsang (abdominal massage and diagnostics), Jin shin Do Acupressure, Reiki, and Medical Qi Gong. As a Qi Gong practitioner I am impassioned with Qi = life energy and how we cultivate, nourish and maintain this precious balance.
In 2005 I retired my New Mexico state Midwifery License that I held from the early 90's with a long tenure of training and interest in Womans Health since the mid 70's. At age 50, inspired by life's changes and the commitment to Women's Health, I completed a course with Aveda Skin Care in Albuquerque, NM and became a licensed Esthetician in New Mexico.
I am impassioned by Natural Organic Food ... food that is grown local and nurtured in love. I have numerous trainings in Food Based Healing and in my medical practice will always refer to your nutrition and offer any guidance that may be suitable for your health. I hope in the near future to offer workshops in Food Based Healing and the practice of Qi Gong and Natural Skin Care.
Background:
My personal background is wrapped around my voracious desire of learning. Having spent most of my adult life pursuing education, in the field of Natural Medicine~ Natural Living.
I began studying in the mountains of the Appalachia in the early 70's in a college course of study that began to develop my learning in botanical and horticultural study. I was 19 and from this study, I became a member of an intentional community in Virginia that was based on self-sufficient farming and living.
It is here I cultivated a deep and intimate passion for hard work and a love for all that is "natural". I began a long and devoted journey in Midwifery/Women's Health, with my continued study of plant-based medicine working directly with a professor of doctorate studies in Botany and Forestry.
In 1977 in my deep quest for nature and tropical botanicals, I found myself in an island of the West Indies called Dominica. It was from this experience that I began a strong desire for learning medicine and the role of a "barefoot doctor''. In my first exposure to Asian Medicine, I became intrigued.
It was through Hurricane David (category 5) that destroyed much of the island that I understood humanitarian efforts and relief, beginning my journey back to the United States. Upon arriving back in the United States in 1980, I enrolled in the study of Acupuncture in Boston MA. From there I completed my studies in Santa Fe, New Mexico paralleling my studies and internships both in Oriental Medicine and Women's Health, receiving my Acupuncture and Midwifery License in the early 90's.
Shortly after the completion of trainings and licensure in New Mexico, I relocated back to the Northeast for my children's education and my continued cultivation as a Midwife. After the 5th year in the east, I returned to New Mexico to begin my practice of Oriental Medicine. For my love of Northern New Mexico and my commitment to the mountains I began practicing in Espanola, first with another group practice and then going into private practice, founding Luz de Vida in 2000. I invite you to join us in your journey of health and wellbeing.
